Using Online Voucher Codes to Increase Sales

The use of discount vouchers and voucher codes has rapidly increased over the past few years, to the point where 66% of those that use them expect to use more in the next year. A recent Forrester Report commissioned by online vouchers site VoucherCodes.co.uk also revealed that 41% of all voucher code users expected to use an online voucher on at least a quarter of their internet shopping last year.So why and how does offering a discount voucher code help your online business? First of all, it helps you to attract new customers. 76% of active voucher code users (those who use six or more per year) said they would be more likely to try a new brand that they received an online code for, while 64% of light users said the same.

Another reason is that having a voucher code helps to reduce shopping cart abandonment. For retailers who do not offer free or reduced cost delivery charges (which are often only revealed at the shopping cart stage), having a voucher offering a discount on the goods purchased (or even free delivery) will help to reduce the numbers of those who decide to click off the site at this point.

65% of customers who were undecided whether to buy a product said that having a voucher code would help to finalise the decision for them. This can be extremely important for retailers who offer products that are not as easy to buy over the internet, such as clothing, which cannot be tried on before purchase.
